About GLOBAL

In 2009, the Arts Council for Long Beach convened a planning group consisting of a broad cross-section of arts leaders to re-imagine the Arts Council's "October is Arts Month" program, and GLOBAL was launched shortly afterward.

GLOBAL ("Greater Long Beach Arts Lab") celebrates and promotes Long Beach's diverse arts and culture. GLOBAL occurs every October as part of National Arts and Humanities Month, a coast-to-coast collective celebration of culture in America.

GLOBAL aims to:

Promote the local arts community
Promote the arts to new audiences including new age groups, new demographics, and new geographic areas
Reduce barriers to the arts
Work in partnership with the local arts community
Serve as a communication hub for the local arts community

In its first year, GLOBAL promoted over 300 event listings in an online calendar, print advertisements, online advertisements, and print materials. In 2010, GLOBAL will continue to promote and recognize the arts community in the press, advertisements, and online.
